Introduction
IRC, or Internet Relay Chat, is, as you can tell by the name, a chatting protocol. In IRC, you can chat privately or on channels, which are like chat rooms. #timecapsule is the Operation Time Capsule channel.
#timecapsule is located on the server abwayax.com, port 6667 (the standard IRC port).
#timecapsule rules of thumb
#timecapsule is meant to be a happy, joyful place where we can remember the old days of Cartoon Network in real-time, as well as share and discuss old clips (however the discussion does not have to be Cartoon Network-related at all). To keep in line with this, we ask that you follow some simple rules:
- Do not "troll". A troll is "someone who intentionally posts derogatory or otherwise inflammatory messages about sensitive topics in an established online community such as an online discussion forum to bait users into responding". Trolls are unwelcome and are subject to being banned from the channel.
- Do not enter the room just to talk about how much you love the new (post-2007) Cartoon Network, its shows, or its bumpers. While discussion of the post-07 CN is welcome, and you are not required to hate it to death, joining #timecapsule (a nostalgia channel) simply to extol the virtues of live-action programming on CN may be construed as "trolling" and will probably get you kicked.
- Do not pester bumper and promo collectors for new clips. We are working on our own time to share these with the world. It is a hobby. Not a job. We get bumpers because we find them ourselves, and some of them we've been looking for a very long time. We do not simply pull them out of a hat.
- Please do try to stay civil. If you have an unpleasant attitude, it makes the rest of us feel unpleasant.
- Do not ask for op or voice. It is every bit as rude as pestering Abwayax to be given a mod spot on the forums.
#timecapsule access levels
- Operators or "ops" (@) manage the channel. Typically these are site staff but this status may be given out to whomever we feel trustworthy.
- Voiced users (+) are able to speak when the channel is muted (+m), but function as normal users otherwise. Trusted friends of OTC (bumper contributors mostly) get this, but can be given out to whomever we want.
Getting onto #timecapsule
#timecapsule can be accessed through this web applet. This is the way most of you will probably access it. If you have a standalone IRC client (such as mIRC) installed then clicking this link may get you there. |
